Welcome to the Roanoke Valley Personal Computer Club! The RVPCC has been in existence, in one form or another, since 1984. We stress IBM PC and compatible computers, although many members use other machines at home and at work. Our members include a wide range of people, from beginners to those who make their living with computers. Our club goal is to bring people with a common interest in computers and their uses, together for mutual benefit and pleasure. Visitors are always welcome! Visit the Club WEB page located at http://rvpcc.org Our club meets on the second Saturday of each month at the Arnold R. Burton Technology Center, 1760 Roanoke Boulevard, Salem, VA. 24153 Room 105; courtesy of Roanoke County Schools. Parking is available on the lower level and the Computer Lab is inside and to your left. Club meetings are from 9:15 AM to 12:00 PM and begin with a business session, followed by a guest speaker from a local business, a club member or a representative of a national organization, such as Microsoft, etc. Afterwards, members may attend special presentations, SIG's (Special Interest Groups), or just enjoy the fellowship with other computer hobbyist. A monthly newsletter called SOFT TALK is available for download.. It covers all club activities, upcoming events, and features special interest columns. The regular club membership rate is $30.00 per year. Membership includes all immediate family members that reside at the same address.
SHAREWARE The Roanoke Valley Personal Computer Club fully supports SHAREWARE and it's marketing concept. Shareware is software, which is provided to you to "try before you buy." It is NOT free software. You may copy and share programs with your friends but the authors request registration fees from those who try their programs and decide they will continue to use them. Because these authors do not have to pay the high cost of advertising, the fees they charge for registration are modest compared to the prices you would pay for comparable programs marketed commercially. Most shareware packages include full documentation manuals that are readable on disk or may be printed by your printer. In many cases your registration fee provides you with extras like printed manuals, telephone support, updated versions, etc. Shareware is a real bargain for such high quality software. Your support of the shareware concept will help keep this a viable alternative to paying high prices for commercial software. PUBLIC DOMAIN SOFTWARE Public Domain software is the "free lunch" of software. It has no copyright. It is free, and you can change it and use it however you want. It has no restrictions. It is "in the public domain." Please retain copies for your records. Fill out the form and give to a membership chairperson or mail to the following address.
